Newest Brat is off the hook!

Sea Cup ©2009, the new Brat sculpture, is the first of the newest generation of Brats, always a favorite genre of Deborah's work. This little beauty is everyone's favorite Brat Sculpture so far, including the artist.

"My favorite is always whatever I am working on. Sea Cup has movement, emotion, and feels truly alive. I love Sea Cup."

Sea Cup is a mermaid and water themed Brat sculpture. Sea Cup is full of subtle movements, shimmering colors and is every inch a sassy, beautiful Brat.

Sea Cup features several of Deborah's newest innovations to the Brat series. The most prominent innovation is the addition of rotation capabilities for the collector.

"I enjoy looking at all sides of a Brat when I sculpt. I incorporate secret visual pleasures and amusing surprises which are only apparent if you can enjoy the sculpture in 360°."

Fingertip controlled viewing available for Sea Cup. Photography by Darin Volpe.

Deborah Burge's sculpture: Steel Magnolias is chosen for Art For The Bridge

Sea Cup ©2009 has 360° rotation on a pin/sleeve system built into the sculpture body and beautiful base.

"Part of the joy of working in multimedia is getting to experience the piece from many angles and seeing the reflections of glass and wire in surround view.

"Whatever medium I am working with has its own integrity and texture from the start. I choose mediums for their intrinsic values. Each Brat has a story to tell which may appear to be secondary to the beauty of the mediums.

"Brat Sculptures are mesmerizing when displayed in lights. Colored glass is beautiful as are many of the elements I use in all my sculpture. Brat Sculptures are compact little packages with powerful presence."

Deborah Burge is a visual artist working in many mediums. Her paintings are figurative large-scale oil and acrylic. She sculpts in everything from found objects to the finest marble and alabaster.

Deborah manages to lace barbed-wire into and through as many works as possible. This stylistic medium has become her signature, heralding her Texas roots.

She is renowned for the little barbed-wire and broken glass bra sculptures, several of which are in the collections of celebrities and performers.

To read her current artist' statement, click the Fine Print links. Visitors are always welcome (e-mail the studio for an appointment).

For a small day fee you can plan a working studio visit to participate in group painting and sculpture lessons. Individual instruction and artistic consultation available upon request.

The "id" or interactive design section

Interactive design means Deborah's art expressed as costumes for performance and parade, portrait puppets of patrons, strange little sock-creature dolls, and other random mediums that suit her whimsy. Mainly the "id" art forms interact with people is some way, as opposed to simply being observed.

In spite of the intent with which they are created, many of Deb's "id" creations sit forlorn in beautiful display cases, interpreted as Art by those lucky collectors who own these warm and often fuzzy gems.

The newest puppets: the jenPuppet and samPuppet are currently under construction.

Studio shipping service providers:
ALL SHIPPING FROM Deborah Burge Studio to patrons and friends is through FedEx or USPS Thanks for your patronage. We LOVE Fed X and USPS! To date Fed X has done a superior job in the handling and delivery of fragile sculpture and painting to our patrons all over the country. After several "brown mishaps" we switched permanently to Fed X and USPS with excellent results and many satisfied clients. Fed X in particular just seems to take more pride and care in the handling of fragile art packages than our previous shipping provider.
