-What are Brats?

The Brat Sculptures

The category of "Brat" was first invented by Deborah as a merging of the word Maquette and the word bra. (Traditionally the word maquette is used for a study of or for a large sculpture i.e.: Rodin and Henry Moore both produced numerous maquettes of large scale sculptures) The large scale tabletop sized bras are the basis for these miniature bra sculptures and so from "bra-ette" she formed the word "Brat". When research of the history of the word "brat" revealed the English dialect root meaning "coarse garment", she exclaimed: "How perfect is that?"
And the rest, as they say, is art history...
